Zhongyu recently provided a pneumatic ash conveying solution for a biomass boiler dust handling project. The system was designed to collect and transfer fly ash generated during the flue gas treatment process and convey it to steel ash storage silos for centralized storage.
Project Overview
The project serves a 150 t/h biomass boiler and handles the full flue gas volume generated by the boiler. The dust removal section uses a combination of cyclone separators and a baghouse dust collector. Dust collected from the equipment is then transferred through a pneumatic ash conveying system to steel ash silos.
The pneumatic conveying system has a designed conveying capacity of 5.6 t/h, with a material conveying velocity of approximately 15 m/s and a conveying pressure of 58.8 kPa.
Key System Requirements
Because the system handles ash generated from biomass boiler flue gas treatment, stable dust collection and reliable ash transfer are important parts of the overall process.
The project includes:
- Cyclone dust collectors with wear-resistant internal lining
- A Q235B baghouse dust collector
- Pneumatic ash conveying pipelines with wear-resistant lining at elbows
- Steel ash silos for centralized ash storage
- Hot-air fluidization equipment
- Silo-top dust collectors
- Vacuum relief valves
- Dry ash discharge equipment
- DCS-based electrical and control systems
The ash storage system includes separate coarse-ash and fine-ash silos, with a capacity of 350 m³ for each silo.
How the Zhongyu System Works
After dust is collected by the cyclone and baghouse systems, the ash is discharged from the dust collector hoppers and transferred through the pneumatic conveying system.
Instead of relying on manual transportation, the collected ash can be moved through enclosed pipelines to the designated ash silos. This creates a continuous connection between dust collection, ash conveying and ash storage.
The control system also integrates the dust removal and pneumatic ash conveying equipment through a DCS system. Hopper level detection, vibration equipment, pressure difference and temperature monitoring provide operating information for system control and management.
Why Pneumatic Ash Conveying Matters
For biomass boiler applications, pneumatic conveying provides a practical way to transfer collected ash between different process sections. An enclosed conveying pipeline can also help reduce the need for manual ash handling and allows the equipment layout to be adapted to the plant.
The same pneumatic conveying concept can be applied to many other industries where dry powder or granular materials need to be transferred between equipment, including power generation, biomass processing, mining, chemical processing and environmental protection.
Zhongyu Pneumatic Conveying Solutions
Zhongyu develops pneumatic conveying equipment and material handling solutions based on the specific characteristics of the conveyed material and the operating conditions of the project.
For a complete conveying system, factors such as material type, conveying capacity, conveying distance, pipeline layout and storage requirements need to be considered together.
This biomass boiler project demonstrates how pneumatic conveying can be integrated with dust collection and ash storage to form a complete material handling system.
If you are planning a pneumatic ash conveying system, dust conveying system or powder material conveying project, Zhongyu can help develop a suitable solution based on your actual process requirements.
